At MoonAcre Sanctuary, our mission is to provide safety, dignity, and love to every animal we rescue. While many of the dogs in our care go on to find their forever homes, we recognise that adoption is not the right outcome for every dog. Some arrive with complex medical or behavioural needs that make placement in a traditional home unsafe or unsuitable.

For these special dogs, MoonAcre becomes home for life. As permanent residents of the sanctuary, they receive individualised care, stability, and the freedom to live peacefully at their own pace.

You can help make this lifelong care possible by sponsoring a resident dog for €10 per month. Sponsorship provides vital support for daily needs such as nutritious food, ongoing veterinary care, enrichment, and comfort.

Little Gemma is a tiny wire-haired terrier mix who came to MoonAcre after being diagnosed with paralysis caused by disc compression on her spinal cord. As her previous owners were unable to provide the full-time, specialised care she requires, Gemma was lovingly referred to MoonAcre.

We provide Gemma with daily, hands-on care supporting her physical condition, maintaining her urinary and bowel health, and promoting her nerve health and overall wellbeing.

Gus arrived at MoonAcre in 2021 after being involved in a vehicle accident that resulted in a broken vertebra. With time, treatment, and dedicated care, his mobility has improved significantly. He does, however, live with ongoing faecal incontinence as a lasting effect of his injury.

Meet our beautiful senior girl, LADY.

From the scars on her body, we know she endured a hard life as a hunting and breeding dog. When she arrived at MoonAcre in March 2019, she was suffering from Leishmania, Ehrlichia, and Anaplasmosis, all undiagnosed and untreated, and her health was severely compromised.

Today, Lady is enjoying the peaceful retirement she always deserved. Her Leishmania is in remission and, with the support of a good diet and supplements, she is thriving as a much-loved senior. She still enjoys her walks and always likes to lead the way.

Your support helps us provide the care and comfort that dogs like Lady deserve in their golden years.

Lilly came into the care of MoonAcre in April 2022 after surviving a devastating accident earlier that year.

In January 2022, this gentle girl was involved in a serious vehicle accident at a busy motorway junction. She suffered multiple injuries including a broken pelvis, dislocated hip, a severe fracture to her front leg, and extensive internal bruising. Emergency services rushed her to a veterinary clinic where she underwent several surgeries before coming to MoonAcre to continue her recovery.

Further tests revealed that Lilly was positive for Leishmaniasis, and she began treatment straight away. Thankfully, with careful management and veterinary care, Lilly’s Leishmaniasis is now in remission.

Despite everything she has been through, Lilly’s recovery has been remarkable. Her surgical repairs healed well, her X-rays showed excellent bone growth, and she now enjoys a comfortable life at the sanctuary.

ZACKY arrived at MoonAcre Sanctuary in 2018 after a devastating road accident left him with brain damage and completely paralysed. He relied on round-the-clock, intensive care just to survive.

Through months of dedicated rehabilitation, unwavering love, and incredible resilience, he began to fight his way back — step by step.

Today, he’s living proof of what care, compassion, and second chances can do.

Betty is proudly sponsored by Cheryl’s Paws for a Cause

BETTY came into our care following a devastating fire in the Paphos district.

Betty suffered severe burns to all four of her feet, as well as injuries to her head, ears and torso.

Our team immediately began treating her burns, cleaning and dressing her wounds, and starting medication for her sore eyes and ear mites.

Betty faced a long recovery, requiring ongoing medication, careful wound care and time for her burns to heal.

Today Betty continues her healing journey here at MoonAcre, surrounded by the care and compassion she deserves.

Dora is kindly sponsored by Sue Jennings.

Dora was found near MoonAcre in 2022 in a heart-breaking state – malnourished, severely dehydrated, and desperately in need of help. She spent three days on intravenous fluids to stabilise her. During her initial veterinary checks, she also sadly tested positive for Leishmaniasis.

X-rays then revealed that the radius and ulna in her right foreleg had been sheared through, requiring urgent surgery.

Thanks to a generous €675.43 skydive fundraiser donation from Claudia Pinn, Dora was able to have surgery to pin and stabilise the broken bones in her foreleg.

We are delighted to share that after dedicated care and treatment, Dora’s Leishmaniasis is now in remission – a wonderful milestone in her recovery
