What Our Adopters Say
Nothing makes us happier than seeing our dogs settle into loving homes. Over the years, we’ve been fortunate to work with incredible adopters who share their stories and experiences with us.
These testimonials offer a glimpse into the journeys of our dogs and the joy they bring to their new families. We hope their stories inspire and reassure you as you consider welcoming one of our rescued dogs into your family.
Moss & Martha:
Moss and Martha were both rescued on the same day in Summer 2020 and quickly became inseparable. Initially, we tried to rehome them as a pair, but with no success, they were listed separately. In 2023, Moss found his perfect match, and after the usual checks, his adoption was confirmed. To our delight, his adopter also offered Martha the chance to join him, giving the two friends their fairy-tail ending together.
“The best decision ever!
After a few friends had adopted dogs from various places abroad it was by chance I saw an advert for Moss on Instagram and instantly fell in love. Immediately I started my application for him, thinking I would be one of many. Good news for me I was accepted for Moss but sadly the only applicant in nearly 3 years.
The application was simple and the home check was an opportunity to speak with a previous adopter and share their experience and answer any questions we had.
After being accepted for Moss we decided to give Martha the opportunity to come with her best friend and experience life as part of a family.
Shortly after arriving in the UK it was clear they had so much love to give even after a difficult start in life. Straight away settling into our home and routine. Both dogs were fully house trained and would perform simple commands. Both dogs walked well on the lead but with a small amount of work were soon walking to heel and even starting to come back while off the lead. It is clear that Moonacre do a lot of training with the dogs to get them ready for the day they are adopted.
Moss and Martha love nothing more than simply being with us and weekends away to the Lake District with a walk to a pub, sprawling out in-front of a fire and waiting for a tip bit to come their way.
Last Christmas we visited Moonacre to help out and give something back. They have so many amazing dogs waiting for their forever homes which they all deserve.” – James
Rooney:
“A year after losing my wonderful boy Barney, I started to tentatively consider looking to adopt a new dog, as our house wasn’t quite the same without a four-legged friend with us. I saw Rooney on the Moonacre Facebook page and there was something about him that reminded me of Barney and I knew I had to have a dog with as much character. I wasn’t ready emotionally at that point to do anything about it and I did have concerns about the fact that Rooney came with a mended back. I didn’t want to go through further heartache any time soon.
A few months later, Rochelle got in touch to say that Rooney was going to a foster home in the UK. I said to my husband “if he’s anywhere up to an hour away from us, we could perhaps go and see him”. The foster home’s location – EXACTLY an hour away! We went to visit him and he immediately climbed on my lap and was ridiculously loving. We were sold! And it was one of the best decisions. There was something about Rooney that always drew me back to him and now I know why – he is SO full of personality!
From day one, he settled in and we got into a routine very early. He was already toilet trained, and loved sitting in the back of the car not making a sound right from the start!
Do I have a minor complaint about Moonacre? Yes, they gave so much love to Rooney in the early days when he was healing, that now he demands being stroked to sleep each night on the sofa!
Seriously, Moonacre are absolute angels in the way they rehabilitate their animals and give them a home experience from the get-go. Please consider them if you are even having initial thoughts about adopting a dog.” – Lou
Marco & Watson:
“I adopted from MoonAcre as I worked there for a total of 3 months in 2020. We originally adopted Watson as he fit in well with our elderly Border Terrier, and then my mum saw photos of Marco and fell in love with him, so we had him, too. I had met and worked with both dogs prior to adopting them and knew we’d be adopting from a good place.
The process was fairly simple. I was in Cyprus when my family adopted Marco, and I got to go to the vets with him to get his jabs and paperwork done, and I got to put him in his flight crate and send him on his way. My family picked him up when he arrived in England.
Marco and Watson are extremely loving dogs, and I wouldn’t be without them. Having worked with them in Cyprus and now being with them at home for 5 years, I can see the huge difference that adoption makes to their lives. They’re completely different to the dogs that were in rescue because they’ve been able to open up, settle into a home of their own and feel loved every day.
And it’s all thanks to MoonAcre. Without them, they’d be dead dogs, quite literally.” – Claudia
