Evening Adventures at MoonAcre

As the sun began to set over the fields, Sergia, Arabella, Delgado, Sushi and Paris enjoyed one of their favourite parts of the day – an off-lead adventure with our wonderful volunteer dog walker Zwen.

The five friends came racing back through the trees at full speed, tails wagging and ears flapping.

We are incredibly grateful to Zwen and all of our volunteers who give their time, energy and love to the animals at MoonAcre. Their dedication transforms ordinary evenings into unforgettable adventures and helps our dog prepare for life with their future families.

A Wonderful Day of Volunteering at MoonAcre

We were delighted to welcome Emily from Love Paws Cy, who brought along her fantastic team of pet sitters to volunteer with us at MoonAcre Sanctuary.

The group spent the day getting involved across the sanctuary and made a huge difference to both our animals and our team. They walked a large number of our dogs, including some of our disabled dogs, ensuring they enjoyed exercise, enrichment and plenty of attention.
Their kindness and hard work extended throughout the sanctuary. The team helped make hay for the horses, spent time giving our equine residents well-deserved cuddles and affection, treated our pigs to some tasty snacks, and enjoyed some quieter moments with the cats in the cattery.
Volunteer support plays such an important role in helping us provide the highest standard of care to the animals at MoonAcre, and days like this remind us how fortunate we are to have such compassionate people supporting our mission.

A heartfelt thank you to Emily and everyone from Love Paws Cy for giving their time, energy and kindness to our animals. We are incredibly grateful and hope to welcome you all back again soon.

Sirius – 3-Legged Shepherd Boy

Sirius was first found a couple of months ago after being hit by a car in the area of Agios Therapontas Village. He was discovered injured in the middle of the road and taken in by a man who moved him to a warehouse in Limassol.

Sirius had sustained serious injuries to his leg. A friend later visited the area and, seeing his condition, raised concern. It was explained that veterinary treatment was urgently needed but could not be afforded. A small group then came together to help, funding his surgery and supporting his care. This ultimately led to the amputation that saved his life.

Despite this, Sirius’s situation changed again when the warehouse owner no longer wanted him there. He was taken back to the area where he was originally found and left alone.

Sirius is now safe in the care of MoonAcre Sanctuary, where he has been given his name (affectionately known as Sirius Black ).

He is a friendly giant with a gentle nature, showing trust and affection towards people despite everything he has endured.

Adoption Status:

Sirius is now being prepared for adoption and will soon be looking for a forever home.

He will need a family who can offer stability, patience, and the reassurance that he will never again be left behind.

Sushi’s Story

Sushi came into our care after we responded to a report of a dog left at a football club for two nights. She had a collar and tag, but the contact number was invalid, and she had clearly been left to fend for herself.

We couldn’t leave her there, so we brought her to safety…

After some investigation, we discovered that Sushi had been seen running loose across multiple areas, including Dhekelia, Pyla and Livadia. Although she is microchipped, her registered owner has confirmed that he cannot care for her. She had been left in someone else’s care, where she was kept on a chain but repeatedly escaped – with no one attempting to recover her.

When Sushi arrived, she was covered in fleas and ticks and was understandably exhausted. She has since been treated, fed, and given a safe, warm place to rest.

Despite everything she has been through, Sushi has shown herself to be a gentle and trusting dog. She is approximately 2 and a half years old, spayed, microchipped, and responds to English.

Sushi is now safe and ready to start the next chapter of her life in a loving, permanent home.

As a small sanctuary, we do not have the capacity to care for her long-term, so finding the right home for Sushi is a priority.

If you feel you could offer Sushi – or any of our animals – a safe and loving forever home, please complete our adoption application form.
