In late November, we responded to a Facebook report about a tiny abandoned puppy in a nearby village. We found a brave 5-month-old girl who had survived alone for 20 days in a thicket of thorns. Malnourished, anaemic, and exhausted, she was rushed to the vet and brought back to MoonAcre, where she received food, warmth, and plenty of care. We named her Agatha, meaning “thorns” in Greek, to honour the place she endured until help arrived.
We’re thrilled to share that Agatha’s adoption has been approved! She will be renamed Grace and is preparing to travel to her forever home in Belgium this February. Her health is excellent, she has received her first vaccination, and she’s ready to start her exciting new life.
Approximately two years ago, Alethrico Community Council disconnected the Sanctuary’s water supply without notice and relocated the water meter 400 metres from the property. Restoration required new underground pipework to be installed at the Sanctuary’s expense. As the farm is rented, and the cost was several thousand euros, the landlord declined to carry out the work.
Despite repeated requests for the official contractor to be appointed and invoiced so the work could proceed, no action was taken. The situation now anticipated has occurred: the Sanctuary’s underground well has dried up, leaving an extremely limited water supply. Today, only around ten minutes of water was available from the well, which is insufficient for drinking, cleaning, or daily animal care for over 100 animals.
An 8am appointment has now been secured with the Muktar to review and, if approved, sign the paperwork required to connect the Sanctuary to the mains water supply. Once approved, new pipework will be installed above and below ground, funded by the Sanctuary, to secure a reliable long-term water source.
In the meantime, bottled water is being provided for all animals, with well water reserved for cleaning, washing disabled dogs, and essential daily care.
Dear Friends and Supporters, I am hoping that you will come to our immediate aid.
Regular donations have been sparse over the past 6 months, and right now our finances are at rock bottom.
I have already ceased all but emergency vet visits, and for several weeks I have diverted every cent we receive into keeping the animals fed. Sadly, I find that we are unable to pay for our regular feed order on Tuesday 27th June.
I am asking for your help to collect Euro 480 for the absolute minimum amount of food needed to feed the horses, dogs, cats, pigs and chickens for 7 days. We cannot contribute anything to this bill as we have no funds remaining.
Euro 480 solves only the very immediate problem, but it buys us time at least. Please, please, make a donation. I cannot comprehend reaching Tuesday and not being able to buy animal feed for the first time in 11 years of rescue.
We are under immense stress here, but I am determined that these animals will not be deprived of food. Please help us.

To me, MoonAcre is one of the most special places on Earth. Love and purpose fill every corner of this sanctuary. We care deeply about the animals here – many of whom arrived broken, frightened, or forgotten – are now as safe, healthy, and happy as we can possibly make them.
But like so many animal welfare organisations right now, MoonAcre is struggling.
Our animal feed bill alone has risen to €550 every fortnight – even with the generous discounts our suppliers give us. This cost alone has become overwhelming.
MoonAcre exists to care for the animals who have nowhere else to go: the physically disabled, the elderly, and those who have been rejected everywhere else. Most of our dogs are disabled, and nearly all of them arrive through referrals from authorities, veterinarians, rescuers, or desperate individuals asking for help. They come to us because MoonAcre is often the last and only option available to them in Cyprus.
Every euro we earn as a family, and every cent donated, goes directly into keeping this sanctuary running. Despite our best efforts, we can no longer cover the rising cost of food on our own.
