Rusty and Luna Have Found Their Forever Homes!

We’re delighted to share some wonderful news from Moonacre Sanctuary — Rusty and Luna have each found their forever homes!

They will be leaving at the beginning of March to travel to England, where their new chapters will begin. While it’s always emotional saying goodbye, this is exactly what Moonacre Sanctuary is here for – giving animals the time, care, and second chances they need before finding the right match for their future.

We are so proud of how far they’ve both come, and so grateful to our supporters who make these happy endings possible.

Good luck, Rusty and Luna – your new chapters begin now!

Welcoming 2026

As we step into 2026, we want to take a moment to reflect on the year behind us and the hope ahead.

In 2025, we said some very emotional goodbyes – and hello to new beginnings – as six of our dogs went to live with their forever families, beginning a new chapter in their lives. Seeing them leave MoonAcre to start safe, loved lives of their own is the reason we do what we do. We are endlessly grateful to the families who opened their homes and hearts.

As the new year begins, our biggest wish is for the seven wonderful dogs currently waiting for their forever families to finally find them.
We hope that Liam, Luna, Arabella, Ghost, Benbo, Paris, and Buster will each get their chance at the love, stability, and companionship they deserve.

Thank you to everyone who has supported MoonAcre – through volunteering, adopting, donating, sharing our stories, or simply caring. Your kindness makes every rescue, every recovery, and every happy ending possible.

Here’s to 2026, to new beginnings, and to more lives changed for the better.

Our Mission

At MoonAcre Sanctuary, our mission is simple: to provide safety, compassion, and lifelong care to animals who have known neglect, abuse, injury, or abandonment.

Every animal who arrives at MoonAcre leaves their past behind. Here, they are treated with dignity, patience, and love — never again facing fear, hunger, or cruelty. We believe that healing happens not only through veterinary care, but through kindness, understanding, and time.

MoonAcre is more than a sanctuary. It is a place where animals are allowed to simply be, to recover at their own pace, and to finally feel safe.

Our Story

MoonAcre Sanctuary was never planned — it grew out of necessity and compassion.

In 2012, what is now MoonAcre was just a small, derelict farm, home to a few rescued horses, dogs, and cats. Then in 2013, everything changed. Eighteen dogs were discovered living in appalling conditions in a local pound. With no safe alternative, they were brought home  and MoonAcre was truly born.

The name MoonAcre comes from the book The Little White Horse, describing a magical place where love transforms lives.

In 2015, the rescue of a puppy with mutilated hind limbs began our work with disabled dogs. Since then, dozens have received surgery, prosthetics, or rehabilitation at MoonAcre.

Over the years, MoonAcre has grown into a refuge for horses, dogs, and other animals from across Cyprus — many of them disabled, chronically ill, or considered “unadoptable.” What they find here is not judgment or limitation, but acceptance.

What We Do

MoonAcre Sanctuary provides lifelong care, rehabilitation, and refuge for animals in need, including:

  • Rescuing horses from neglect, abandonment, and poor living conditions.

  • Caring for disabled and injured dogs, including those requiring surgery and long-term rehabilitation.

  • Supporting dogs with chronic illnesses, such as canine leishmania.

  • Providing daily care, medical treatment, nutrition, and emotional rehabilitation.

  • Offering animals a permanent, loving home when adoption is not possible.

We also welcome volunteers from around the world, offering hands-on experience in animal care, horsemanship, and sanctuary life.

How You Can Help

MoonAcre exists because of kindness — and there are many ways to be part of our story:

  • Donate to help cover food, veterinary care, and essential supplies.

  • Sponsor an animal and directly support their ongoing care.

  • Volunteer your time and skills at the sanctuary.

  • Share our work on social media to help raise awareness.

  • Fundraise on our behalf or support us through regular monthly giving.

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us continue providing safety and dignity to animals who have nowhere else to go.
